Real estate assistant jobs are easy to come by in California, as the sector is constantly developing and the housing market expanding. The state has very clear guidelines regarding the tasks that an unlicensed assistant can and cannot perform.

The personal assistant of a real estate agent can:

  • Allow access on a property to professionals performing inspections or repair work;
  • Design and prepare open house ads, brochures and other advertisements and present them for approval to a licensee;
  • Make appointments for the licensee;
  • Hire contractors and order reports and checkups at the direction of a licensee;
  • Look for new listings in the MLS;
  • Inform the buyer about listings;
  • Inform clients regularly about parameters changes;
  • Draw up the purchase agreement contracts as instructed by the licensee;
  • Solicit interest in benefiting from the services of a real estate agent or broker;
  • Provide the public with information based on materials supplied by the licensee;
  • Review transaction documents, following the directions of the real estate agent;
  • Clarify procedures to clients;
  • Schedule maintenance and repair works and check if they have been completed;
  • Schedule inspections, final walk-thru;
  • Review reports;
  • Manage trust funds;
  • Update and manage the client database;
  • Have copies of the keys made;
  • Pick up and hand over documents;
  • Take photos of properties;
  • Record any listing activity in the area of a certain property and inform the agent or the client;
  • Place and remove signs on a property;
  • Help the licensee at an open house: arrange the food, open the property, welcome the public, hand out materials;
  • Show rental units and manage applications (as a real estate assistant within a company that manages residential apartment buildings or complexes).
